In a country like India which is the largest democracy in the world,
Public Grievance Redress mechanism holds an important place.
This section of India Facts brings to you the contact details
of the Directors of Public Grievances in each Ministry/Department under Govt. of India.
The Government of India has set up the Public Grievance Redress System that aims to impart more responsible and citizen-friendly governance in the country. In all Ministries/Departments of Govt. of India a senior officer designated as Director of Public Grievance will take care of all the grievances concerned to the Ministry/Department.

DIRECTORS OF GRIEVANCES IN CENTRAL GOVERNMENT MINISTRIES/DEPARTMENTS
(As on 01 Apr, 2007) The Government of India, in its efforts to provide more responsive and citizen-friendly services to the public, has set up Public Grievance Redress Machinery in each of its Ministries/Departments. A senior officer has been designated as Director of Grievances in each of these Ministries/Departments. The designated officer will generally be available for meeting complainants from 1000 hours to 1300 hours every Wednesday. These officers have been vested with the powers to call for files/ papers relating to public grievances in cases in which a decision is pending for more than two months and take a decision with the approval of the Secretary/ Head of the Department of the Ministry/Department concerned. Members of Public are advised to address their grievances to the Director of Grievances of the concerned Ministry/Department for redress.
Since the public grievances are redressed in a decentralized manner, it is requested that the grievances may first be taken up with the Ministry/Department concerned. In case the grievance is not redressed within the prescribed time frame, only then the same may be sent to the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances or Directorate of Public Grievances. Note 2: Your grievance petition should clearly indicate the name of
Ministries/ Departments with following information:- (a) Name and address of the
complainant
(b) Specific grievance
(c) Designation and full address of the government authority approached p; earlier
for redress
(d) Reference number/ date of the government authority concerned.
Note 3: Complaints pertaining to disciplinary matters covered by statutory rules,
bilateral disputes and matters pending in courts/tribunals may not be taken up.
Note 4: To provide quality public services to the citizen in a hassle-free manner,
Citizen s Charters have been formulated in various Central Government
Ministries/Departments. You may get useful information from our
website www.goicharters.nic.in. Note 5: As a Citizen-centric initiative
and with a view to providing the citizen’s speedy and hassle free access
to information relating to various public services, Central Government
Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations with large public interface have set up
Information and Facilitation Counters (IFC) where information relating to various
activities/services and schemes are provided to the citizens. Representations
